How This Birth Parent Hopes It Will Turn Out

I'm very happy to see the adult you've become.
I love you, and I'm proud of you.
(I forget that you're the adopted one).
We didn't "choose" you - God did. He lent you to us, dear Son.
And we've been glad you've shared our lives.
(I forget that you're the adopted one).
Now you say you want to find the one who gave you birth.
- We've talked about it, and it's true, your Dad and I I have questioned our worth -
At first, we felt sad and hurt -
But now our talking is done.
We'll try to understand your side.
(We forget that you're the adopted one).
And there may be a lady, thinking about a son,
Who, in spite of other children,
Has never forgot the adopted one.
