Politically Correct NOT

I am over 50, and maybe that is why I am fed up with Politically Correct -ed - ness.

I find that, as I get older, I have far less patience with people, and with what I perceive as whining.

It is all well a good that the women's lib fight was fought in the 60s and 70s but it has gone overboard....encompassing far more than it ever should have done.

For example, while everyone has probably got used to 'letter carrier' instead of 'mailman' and 'firefighter' instead of 'fireman' I have a lot of trouble accepting 'actor' when referring to an 'actress' - and I have a question, "WHY do we still have 'king and queen' and 'prince and princess'?  WHY? Because I think that most everyone would find it ludicrous to change these!

Another p.c. term that seems to be found everywhere these days is 'passed' when referring to death.  Excuse me, but when I was a child, 'passed' was a good thing - it meant getting moved on to the next grade in school!  Please, people, call a spade a spade for once, instead of glossing over death and dying.  I believe that the term 'passed' is popular because so many people are terrified of death and don't want to think about it.  Instead of facing reality, they want to sugar coat and deny it.

Years ago, when ours was more of a farming society, everyone was used to death - cattle and chickens and pigs were killed for meat, for example.  It was a routine and normal part of life. Heaven forbid now that we actually acknowledge where the meat on our dinner table comes from!  Hunting was common, for food and for clothing.  Not anymore.  So maybe that's why so many people are in denial.  But I think it is quite unhealthy to hide behind a word like 'passed' and deny reality.
