Chocolate Cookies 1 and 1/2 cups shortening 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 4 - 1 oz. squares of unsweetened chocolate, melted OR 3/4 cup of cocoa and 4 tablespoons of butter* 5 - 6 tablespoons milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon salt 4 cups flour Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a medium bowl cream the shortening. Gradually add the sugar, and cream well. Beat in the eggs, chocolate, milk, vanilla and salt. Gently stir in flour. Drop on ungreased cookie sheets, by tablespoons. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. *I prefer using the cocoa and butter to the squares of chocolate. Makes about 50 cookies. If cutting recipe in half, the amount of cocoa required will be about 6 tablespoons.
